- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup celery, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups seafood stock
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 3 cups cooked white rice
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until it turns a golden brown color.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic to the pot and sauté until the vegetables are tender.
- Pour in the seafood stock while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
- Stir in the Cajun seasoning and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Add the shrimp to the pot and cook until they are pink and cooked through.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve the shrimp étouffée over cooked white rice.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños.
- Try adding some chopped green onions on top for garnish before serving.
