Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound lump crab meat
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup okra, sliced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 3 celery stalks, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 4 cups cooked rice

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic; sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the chicken broth, bay leaves, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce; bring to a boil.
  5. Add the sausage, shrimp, crab meat, and okra; reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the gumbo over cooked rice.

Notes

  • For a thicker gumbo, allow it to simmer longer to reduce the liquid.
  • Add more or less hot sauce according to your heat preference.
