Description

Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast is a rich and indulgent breakfast dish prepared the night before, making your mornings easier and your breakfast deliciously satisfying. The caramel-like base of butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup, combined with custard-soaked French bread, results in a golden, flavorful toast that is sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Grand Marnier (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar, for serving

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter with the brown sugar and corn syrup, stirring until smooth. Pour the mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly to coat the bottom.
  • Arrange the bread slices in the baking dish in a single layer, squeezing them slightly to fit.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, vanilla extract, Grand Marnier (if using), and salt. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread slices.
  • Cover the baking dish with cling film and refrigerate overnight, allowing the bread to soak up the custard.
  • The next morning, preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes.
  • Bake, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  • Let the French toast cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a citrus twist, add Grand Marnier to the custard mixture.
  • Ensure the bread slices are evenly soaked in the custard for best results.
  • Serve with fresh fruits or syrup for added flavor
