Description

This Crockpot French Onion Meatloaf is an easy-to-make dish that combines classic meatloaf with the rich flavors of French onion soup. Topped with caramelized onions and melted Swiss cheese, this slow-cooked comfort food is perfect for busy weeknights or a hearty family meal.


Ingredients

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix (1 oz)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp beef broth or water

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, French onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Form into a loaf shape and place in the slow cooker.
  • Caramelize onions in a skillet with olive oil, cook until golden brown, then set aside.
  • Place caramelized onions over the meatloaf in the slow cooker.
  • Cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours (until internal temp reaches 160°F/71°C).
  • Add Swiss cheese on top and allow to melt in the final 10-15 minutes of cooking.
  • Slice and serve with your favorite sides.

  • For easier removal, line the slow cooker with parchment paper or foil.
