Ingredients
Scale
- 1 kg chicken (you can use thighs, drumsticks, or breasts, depending on your preference)
- 1 sachet onion soup mix (40 g)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 can Coca-Cola (330 ml)
- Olive oil (for searing the chicken)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken:
- Clean the Chicken: Rinse the chicken pieces under cold water, and pat them dry with kitchen paper.
- Season the Chicken: Sprinkle the chicken pieces with salt and pepper to taste. Ensure both sides of the chicken are seasoned.
2. Sear the Chicken:
- Heat the Oil: Add a small amount of olive oil to a large skillet or pan, and heat it over medium-high heat.
- Brown the Chicken: Once the oil is hot, place the seasoned chicken pieces in the skillet. Brown the chicken on both sides, about 5-7 minutes per side. The goal is to create a nice golden-brown crust. The chicken doesn’t need to be fully cooked at this stage, just seared.
3. Mix the Sauce:
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the Coca-Cola, onion soup mix, and ketchup. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well-blended.
4. Cook the Chicken:
- Add the Sauce: Lower the heat to medium, and pour the Coca-Cola, onion soup, and ketchup mixture over the chicken in the skillet.
- Simmer the Chicken: Cover the skillet with a lid and cook on medium-low heat for 30-40 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure the sauce thickens and coats the chicken evenly.
- Check for Doneness: The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F), and the sauce has reduced to a thick consistency.
5. Serve:
- Plate the Chicken: Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a serving dish.
- Sauce: Spoon the thickened sauce over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
- Accompany with Sides: Serve the chicken hot alongside white rice, mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or any other side dish of your choice.
