Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- ½ head green cabbage, thinly sliced
- 2 chicken breasts, sliced into thin strips
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (optional for extra flavor)
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
- Green onions or sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
- Mince the garlic: Peel and finely mince 2 cloves of garlic. This will add a fragrant base to your stir-fry.
- Slice the vegetables: Thinly slice 1 medium onion and ½ a head of green cabbage. The onion will soften and become sweet during cooking, while the cabbage will add a crunchy texture.
- Slice the chicken: Cut 2 chicken breasts into thin strips for even cooking. Season the chicken lightly with salt and pepper.
2. Cook the Chicken:
- Heat the pan: In a large pan or wok, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat.
- Stir-fry the chicken: Add the sliced chicken to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. The chicken should be fully cooked and slightly browned on the outside. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper as it cooks.
- Set aside: Once the chicken is done, remove it from the pan and set it aside in a bowl or on a plate.
3. Sauté the Vegetables:
- Cook the garlic and onion: In the same pan, add the sliced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes soft and translucent. The garlic will add aroma to the dish while the onion will provide a slightly sweet flavor.
4. Stir-fry the Cabbage:
- Add the cabbage: Next, add the sliced cabbage to the pan. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes, tossing frequently. The cabbage should become tender but still retain a slight crunch, providing texture to the dish.
5. Combine and Flavor:
- Return the chicken to the pan: Add the cooked chicken back into the pan with the cabbage and onion mixture.
- Add sauces: If you’re using them, pour in 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Stir everything together, ensuring the chicken and vegetables are evenly coated in the sauce. Let it cook for an additional 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
6. Serve:
- Garnish: For added flavor and presentation, garnish the stir-fry with green onions or sesame seeds, if desired.
- Serve immediately: This stir-fry is best served hot, with a side of steamed rice or noodles to complete the meal.
